- 450 grams of ziti pasta
- 500 grams of ground beef (or pork)
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 800 grams of marinara sauce
- 400 grams of ricotta cheese
- 300 grams of shredded mozzarella cheese
- 100 grams of grated parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Italian herbs (basil, oregano) to taste
Instructions
- Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
- In a large skillet, sauté the onion in oil until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, then drain excess fat.
- Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes to blend the flavors.
- In a large bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, half of the parmesan, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs to create the cheese filling.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Begin layering the lasagna: start with a layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish, followed by a layer of cooked ziti, a layer of cheese filling, and a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella on top. Sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese over the top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.

- Ensure pasta is cooked al dente as it will continue to cook in the oven.

- For a healthier option, replace ground beef with ground turkey or add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms.
