Description

Ziti Lasagna is a comforting dish that combines the rich and creamy texture of traditional lasagna with ziti pasta. A perfect meal to share with family and friends.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 450 grams of ziti pasta
  • 500 grams of ground beef (or pork)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 800 grams of marinara sauce
  • 400 grams of ricotta cheese
  • 300 grams of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 100 grams of grated parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Italian herbs (basil, oregano) to taste

Instructions

  1. Cook the ziti pasta according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, sauté the onion in oil until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, then drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in marinara sauce and simmer for 10 minutes to blend the flavors.
  5. In a large bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, half of the parmesan, salt, pepper, and Italian herbs to create the cheese filling.
  6. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Begin layering the lasagna: start with a layer of meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish, followed by a layer of cooked ziti, a layer of cheese filling, and a layer of shredded mozzarella. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella on top. Sprinkle the remaining parmesan cheese over the top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure pasta is cooked al dente as it will continue to cook in the oven.
  • Let the lasagna rest before cutting to help the layers stay intact.
  • For a healthier option, replace ground beef with ground turkey or add vegetables like spinach or mushrooms.
  • If you prefer a gluten-free version, use gluten-free ziti pasta.
